"Leafpeeping" season is from mid-September to mid-October with brilliant colors throughout the region. There are several scenic routes in the area, to be viewed by vehicle, or hiking.
Moose Watching is a must for every visitor to the area. Even though they are more readily seen during the months of May and June, they can be found in shady, wet areas throughout the summer and fall seasons. The Moosehead Lake Region has many local "hangouts" for these majestic creatures.
Bird Watching continues to be more and more popular. The Moosehead Lake Region was the first area in the state to be researched and mapped for the Maine Birding Trail. Loons and eagles thrive in and around the numerous lakes, streams and ponds in the area.
